Who To See Before 4pm: Daughter
When people talk about seeing life changing sets at festivals, that’s the kind of set that Daughter plays – an experience that’s immersive, moody, and beautiful. The brain child of frontwoman Elena Tonra, this dark indie rock band was completed by guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilell. Igor and Elena are the primary songwriters, and they’re dating – but you wouldn’t know it by Elena’s lyrics, which often speak to anger and fear.
The band’s experimental tendencies certainly haven’t gotten in the way of mainstream success – you’ve almost certainly heard their single “Youth.” “Youth” has been featured on TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Mistresses, Arrow, Forever, Red Band Society, the U.K. Skins and on a commercial for the Tour de France. Their debut album, If You Leave, was released in 2013 on 4AD. Their songs are heavy on guitar picking, and go well with a rainy day – or a dreamy festival field!
